Antiferromagnetism in the Heavy Fermion Compound UAu2

DOI

The proposal is to perform the first detailed neutron powder diffraction study of UAu2 in order to understand the nature of the magnetic order observed in this heavy fermion compound. Although thermodynamic measurements indicate the appearance of antiferromagnetic ordering below ~43K, our previous single-crystal neutron diffraction study found no additional Bragg peaks appearing below the transition temperature. A powder diffraction study is ideal to confirm whether there indeed are any additional Bragg peaks or whether an alternative explanation has to be found for the low temperature properties of this material.
