Reef fish communities of Mid-Atlantic ridge islands: Expeditions in Ascension (2015), Saint Peter and Saint Paul Archipelago (2018-2019), and Saint Helena (2023)

Reef fish communities of Mid-Atlantic Ridge Islands (Ascension, Saint Peter and Saint Paul Archipelago, and Saint Helena islands). This dataset is part of the project Mission Atlantic - WP4 (Subtask 4.2.3 Atlantic Open Ocean Island Reef Community) and the case study South Mid Atlantic Ridge (Case Study SOMAR). Three expeditions were done in Ascension (2015), Saint Paul Rocks (2018-2019) and Saint Helena (January 2023).

The data was gathered through underwater visual censuses. The variables collected for the expeditions are: locality, latitude, longitude, transect number, observer, year, depth, species, trophic group according to Quimbayo et al. 2021 (doi.org/10.1002/ecy.3298), size in cm, individual count, if the species is endemic to the Mid-Atlantic ridge islands, and constants a and b in the allometric growth equation (doi.org/10.1002/ecy.3298). The vertical extent of this dataset ranges from 3-36 m depth.
