Raw backscatter data were collected using the ship's own Kongsberg EM 122 multibeam echosounder during the RV SONNE cruise SO315 CARNIVAL (Coupled Land-Ocean Processes as Agents of Paleoclimatic Variability in the Atacama Desert of Northern Chile, SE Pacific). The cruise took place between 2025-10-08 (Antofagasta, Chile) and 2025-11-17 (Balboa, Panama). Multibeam echosounder data were collected in all the cruise working areas along the northern Chilean continental margin, primarily to support the subbottom profiling survey in search for coring locations. The hydroacoustic survey was generally conducted at 6 knots, resulting in good data quality. Data are unprocessed and therefore contain incorrect depth measurements (artifacts). Sound velocity profiles (SVP) were regularly collected in all the main working areas and are part of this dataset. Data can be processed e.g. with the open source software package MB-System (Caress, D. W., and D. N. Chayes, MB-System: Mapping the Seafloor, http://www.mbari.org/products/research-software/mb-system/, 2022).
