Compared with other crustaceans, Macrobrachium nipponense has more difficulty adapting to environment with low oxygen content.Although there are some transcriptome about M. nipponense in response to hypoxia have been reported, these reports are all focus on compare the survival shrimp in the hypoxic condition with that of the control group. These comparison have certain limitations, only the genes in order to adapt the low oxygen environment by fluctuation of expression can be found. Factors that induc apoptosis due to hypoxia are completely ignored. In the later experiment, the anti-hypoxic ability of M. nipponense could not be improved because these genes could not be knocked out or knocked down.
