This proposal is part of a major research programme at Reading which is focused on nano-fibres prepared by electrospinning. The programme is focused on the electrospinning conditions/structure/property relationships in polymer based nanofibres. We seek LOQ beamtime to obtain high quality small-angle neutron scattering data on a systematic series of samples to facilitate the quantitative determination of chain conformations and levels of anisotropy in polystyrene fibres. These fibres will be prepared using a combination of electrospinning and a rotating collector which leads to additional extension of the fibres during spinning as well as yielding an array of fibres with a common macroscopic alignment. This approach will provide a unique insight in to the control that the rotating collector provides and the way this effects the structure development during electrospinning of polymers.
