Gene expression during gametogenesis in Geodia sponge species

The goal of this study was to understand the evolution of molecular mechanisms regulating both female and male gametogenesis. We generate transcriptomes from five deep-sea sponge species of the genus Geodia, including various individuals which were under oogenesis, spermatogenesis or non-reproductive for each species. With differential gene expression analysis, we compared the gene expression among individuals with different reproductive status within the same species.
