959_Nematode_Genomes

As a key initiative of the newly established Tree of Life (ToL) programme within the Wellcome Sanger Institute, this study aims to sequence novel genomes from across the UK's eukaryotic biodiversity. Our project stands tooffer the global scientific community reference genomes that will enhance understanding of crucial matters such as the effects of climate change on biodiversity and the conservation of endangered species and ecosystems. A significant facet of this project, led by the Blaxter Faculty, is to generate high-quality reference genome sequences for over 260 Nematode species across 53 genera. We will leverage in-house in-vitro techniques to culture the nematodes for high molecular weight DNA extraction. With the advent of modern long-read sequencing technologies, we can now create accurate, chromosomal consensus assemblies for all 260 nematode genomes, resolving issues related to incomplete or low-quality genome sequences.
