Evolution of the magnetic order in a strongly frustrated square lattice magnet

PID

BaCd(VO)(PO4)2 is an ideal system to study the interplay between geometric frustration and quantum magnetism on a square lattice. It is suggested that BaCd(VO)(PO4)2 hosts a spin nematic state in an applied magnetic field. A signature of this state is the disappearance of the magnetic Bragg peaks below the saturation field. We have successfully synthesized single crystals of BaCd(VO)(PO4)2 isotopically enriched in Cd114 to above 98%. We ask for 9 days of beam-time at E2 diffractometer to locate magnetic Bragg peaks in BaCd(VO)(PO4)2 and study their temperature and field dependences.
