Dissolved organic carbon was collected and analyzed for a particle aggregation experiment at time 0 and at 36 hours for different treatments. First treatment is filtered (using GF/F 0.7 µm pore size, Whatman) at time 0 then rolling for 36 hours and filtered again (rolling filtered). Second treatment is filtered at time 0 then rolling for 36 hours and analyzed (rolling prefilter). Third treatment is rolling unfiltered for 36 hours then filtered and analyzed (rolling unfiltered). Treatment four is filtered then standing for 36 hours then filtered (standing filtered). Lastly, treatment five is standing for 36 hours unfiltered then filtered and analyzed (standing unfiltered).Three biological replicates were collected per treatment and only averages are reported. Sea water samples were filtered on pre-combusted Whatman GF/F filters. TDN and DOC analysis was performed via high temperature catalytic oxidation method using Total Organic Carbon Analyzer (TOC-L CPH/CPN™, Shimadzu). Potassium hydrogen phthalate (KHP, Merck) was used for external calibration. Sample accuracy for every run was determined by analyzing seawater reference samples obtained from the University of Miami (Hansell research laboratory) placed throughout sample runs and repeatability was > 96%.
