This dataset provides subsets of mapped forest types at a spatial resolution of 10 m, focusing on boreal forests located in Eastern Siberia. The maps are subsets of 5 regions: Khamra, Western Yakutia, Central Yakutia, Oymyakon, and Chukotka. We used vegetation plot data from field surveys in 2018 and 2021 in Eastern Siberia, and photo-interpretation as training and validation datasets. Sentinel-2 late-summer reflectance was used for the supervised classification using a random forest algorithm. We provide 6 categories: Larix woodland, class name 'Sparse Larch' (Class 0), open Larix forest, class name 'Medium Larch' (Class 1), closed Larix forest, class name 'Dense Larch' (Class 2), needle-leaf evergreen forest (Pinus, Picea), class name 'Evergreen' (Class 3), mixed broad-leaf and needle-leaf Summergreen forest, class name 'Mixed Summergreen' (Class 4), mixed needle-leaf and broadleaf Summergreen and Evergreen forest, class name 'Mixed Summergreen-Evergreen' (Class 5), and 'Burnt or Barre' (Class 6). All other non-forested areas were masked. This map aims to provide a reliable and current map of forest types in this region. More information is provided in the read me file. This dataset results from the following publication: Enguehard et al. 2024, in review.
