Abstract copyright UK Data Service and data collection copyright owner.

The main aims of this survey were: to make a detailed examination of a sample of recent engagements to give a picture of the recruitment methods used and their perceived advantages and disadvantages to estimate the `share' of the engagement market held by the Employment Service Agency to provide a measure of the impact on employers of the Jobcentre programme by means of a detailed comparison of Employment Offices and Jobcentres in terms of use and attitudes. A later study, Employers' Recruitment Practices : The 1992 Survey, carried out by SCPR on behalf of the Employment Service (then part of the Employment Department) is available at the Archive under SN:3694.
