Spatiotemporal variability of size and shape of subaqueous dunes obtained from 10 years of bathymetric data, Weser estuary, German Bight, North Sea

DOI

Dune parameters were obtained from bathymetric data along the navigation channel of the Weser estuary, German Bight, North Sea, for a period of time between 2008 and 2018. The analysis was conducted in the framework of the FAUST project - For An improved Understanding of Sediment Transport in estuaries, a research cooperation between the German Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute (BAW) and the working group of Coastal Geology and Sedimentology at CAU, Kiel University. The project focused on stratification, suspended sediment transport and dune dynamics, in particular on the hydraulic effect of large dunes in tidal environments. The data set contains several parameters describing dune size and shape, face angles and different estimates of the dune asymmetry. The original bathymetric data was provided by the local authorities, WSA Bremen and WSA Bremerhaven, of the German Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration.
