The City of Paris has pursued internationally recognized climate policies for nearly two decades. The Council of Paris adopted its fourth climate action plan, Le Plan Climat 2024–2030, in December 2023. The plan which has been in force since late 2024 aims to further reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, improve air quality, and adapt both the city and its economy to the increasing impacts of climate change. This plan builds upon the 2018 Climate Action Plan, Paris’ first climate strategy which was aligned with the Paris Agreement. The 2018 plan followed the standards set by the initial C40 Climate Action Planning Framework. With Le Plan Climat 2024–2030, Paris became the first city worldwide to adopt a climate action plan under the revised C40 Cities Climate Transition Framework.
