Comparison of the traditions concerning Suraqa's pursuit of the Prophet Muhammad

This dataset contains the results of my literature study on the traditions relating Surāqa’s pursuit of the Prophet Muḥammad, which allegedly took place during the Hijra, i.e. Muhammad’s flight from Mecca to the town later known as Medina. The traditions, found in Classical Arabic Muslim ḥadīth collections in the field of history, Sīra, Qur'anic exegesis, jurisprudence, among others, have been studied with the isnād-cum-matn analysis.

The accompanying article “Surāqa’s Pursuit Continues: An Exhaustive Isnād-cum-Matn Analysis of a Miracle Story” is a reply to Andrew Rippin’s criticism on the conclusions from the application of the isnād-cum-matn analysis in one of my earlier articles , in which the analysis has been applied to a small selection of traditions. In “Surāqa’s Pursuit Continues”, I first describe the tradition in question and explain the isnād-cum-matn analysis. Then, the story of Surāqa’s pursuit is thoroughly analyzed by taking into account all available traditions on the story, and finally, the results are compared with the conclusions from my earlier article.
