Mapping the evolution of strains/stresses across the interface between dissimilar metallic alloys
The research is to study the fundamental issues and the key factors in controlling the interfacial bonding of dissimilar metallic alloys made by spraying deposition; and the interface mechanical response at different loads. The focuses will be on:(1) The measurement and mapping of the residual strain/stress distribution across the interface of the dissimilar alloys after spraying, correlating the measurements to the different spray processing conditions. (2) The evolution of strains/stresses across the interface during in-situ bending deformation to reveal the mechanical response of the interface in either tensile or compressive stresses.Knowledge obtained will accelerate the joint research of Hull, Oxford Universities and Baosteel Co. Ltd (No. 3 in steel companies in the world) to develop high performance bimetallic products for oil and off-shore renewable industries
