This dataset documents the screening and coding process applied to the publications included in a systematic literature review. The literature review entitled "The circularity of textile waste: a systematic literature review on environmental methodologies and knowledge gaps" focuses on environmental methodologies used to analyse the circularity and environmental sustainability of textile waste.
This dataset is structured into three components (i.e., files). The first component records the screening process, detailing each step from the initial set of 1,170 retrieved publications to the final selection of 110 publications included for review. The second component provides a complete list of all codes and subcodes used to systematically review the publications, together with their definitions. The third component contains the coding results, showing which subcodes were assigned to each reviewed publication.
Together, these three files ensure full transparency and traceability of the review process and the extracted results. This dataset also provides complete guidance for the reproducibility and updating of this work.
METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION
-
Description of methods used for collection-generation of data:
- A systematic literature review methodology was used, structured in four stages: (1) searching, (2) screening and appraisal, (3) data extraction, and (4) synthesis.
- Searching involved three bibliographic databases (the Web of Science Core Collection and the ProQuest™ Dissertations & Theses Citation Index databases, both accessed via Web of Science, and the Scopus database, accessed via Scopus), the web-based search engine Google Scholar, and the EU Joint Research Centre (JRC) repository. (File '01_Screening process.xlsx').
- Screening and appraisal followed the ROSES reporting standard (Haddaway et al., 2018). (File '01_Screening process.xlsx').
- Data extraction was performed using ATLAS.ti (ATLAS.ti Scientific Software Development GmbH, 2023) and Microsoft Excel software (Microsoft, 2025), employing a coding technique. (File '02_Description of codes.xlsx' and file '03_Coding.xslx').
- Synthesis was done employing a narrative synthesis approach. (File '03_Coding.xslx').
