Aspergillus flavus strains Nontox17 and Tox53 were sequenced as part of a project to investigate the interaction between biocontrol and an aflatoxigenic isolates. Tox53 was isolated from corn in Louisiana and used as an aflatoxigenic isolate that demonstrated the thigmoregulation mechanism of the Aspergillus flavus non-aflatoxigenic isolates to inhibit aflatoxin production (Huang et al 2011, https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0023470). Nontox17 was isolated from soil in Louisiana (Sweany et al. 2011,) and was found to be highly inhibitory of aflatoxin production during the biocontrol interaction (Sweany et al. 2022, https://doi.org/10.1094/PHYTO-01-21-0022-R). Both isolates were utilized in an RNA-seq experiment to investigate differential gene expression between isolates and during the biocontrol interaction (Sweany et al. 2021, https://doi.org/10.3390/toxins13110794).
