Gamma Dopplerimetry to Determine the Environment of Iodine in Halogen Bonded Monolayers on Graphite

DOI

The design of two dimensional materials assembled from molecular building blocks is dependent on understanding how molecules interact on surfaces. Whilst structural studies of physisorbed monolayers have shown a wide range of behaviour, understanding the bonding within these layers has proved elusive. In a previous experiment on VESUVIO, we showed that gamma dopplerimetry can be used to observe the iodine environment of a halogen bonded monolayer on graphite. In this proposal we wish to conduct further measurements on this system so these experimental results can be compared to simulations of the system.
