Individual shell sizes and shell weights of planktonic foraminifera from five samples from the Labrador Sea cores HU2008-029-004TWC, HU91-045-93BX and MD99-2227

DOI

Individual measurements of shell size and shell weight of distinct species of planktonic foraminifera from the sediment cores HU2008-029-004TWC, HU91-045-93BX and MD99-2227 from the Labrador Sea. Different shell size parameter (area, perimeter, minimum and maximum diameter, diagonal width and circle equivalent diameter) were measured using a KEYENCE VHX-6000 digital microscope. Individual shell weights were measured using a Sartorius Cubis®II ultra-micro lab balance (nominal resolution of 0.1 µg). Before weighing, the shells were left in the room for at least 24 hours to acclimate with the room, and for the water that was used to place them in the weighing boats to evaporate. The measurements were conducted to analyse the relationship of foraminifera shell size and weight, and to compare individual species-specific shell weight with bulk weighs conducted on samples from the same sediment core.

The analysed material was made available by the Université du Québéc à Montréal (UQAM) in the GEOTOP research center, which is supported by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et Technologies (FRQNT).
