A subset of the WP Extended Set of Benchmark CFD Examples and Solutions: Deliverable 2.1. in relation to the European Union's Horizon Europe research and innovation program (HORIZON-CL4-2021-DIGITAL-EMERGING-02-10) under grant agreement No. 101080085 QCFD (https://doi.org/10.3030/101080085). The data refers to Rayleigh-Bénard convection (RBC) experiment addresses a two-dimensional scenario for buoyancy driven flows. The experiment is characterized by a fluid layer subjected to heating from below and cooling from above at a constant Prandtl number. A specific interest lies in the nonlinear interaction between the fluid’s velocity and temperature, which gets increasingly difficult to resolve for very high Rayleigh numbers (Ra). The dynamics within the fluid with density and dynamic viscosity are governed by the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, which are closed using a Boussinesq approximation, treating density variations only within the buoyancy term.
