The experience of war and occupation in the urban centers of the Bulgarian occupation zone. The case study of Xanthi.

The aim of the research is to investigate the way in which the war and the consequent occupation affected the daily life of the inhabitants in the urban centers of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. The field of research in the city of Xanthi is an attempt to reconstruct aspects of the lived experience and the sense of living in this area in the conditions of the multilevel and multifaceted crisis of that period. Through the approach of the upheavals brought about by the war and the occupation in the daily life of the people, the practices adopted for survival will be investigated and it will be examined how they were influenced by the social boundaries, cultural environments and imperative daily needs of this period. In addition, since the field of research is an area with a strong multinational character, special emphasis will be given to the investigation of international relations, mainly in the way in which they are influenced and reshaped within the new framework set by the Bulgarian occupation in the region.
