The aim of the study is to gain insights into the composition and attitudes of participants at the “Fridays for Future” demonstrations for climate protection in November 2019 in Berlin and Bremen. The focus is particularly on socio-demographic characteristics, political attitudes of the respondents encountered at the demonstrations and on the development of the climate protests since March 2019. This survey is a follow-up of the international series of protest surveys of climate strikes/demonstrations in 15 countries in Europe, Australia, Mexico and the USA (Wahlström et al. 2019, de Moor et al. 2020). The demonstrations took place on November 29th in Berlin and in Bremen. According to the estimations of the research team, 40,000 people participated in the demonstration in Berlin and 6,000 in Bremen. The organizers claimed that 60,000 participated in Berlin, and 15,000 in Bremen.
The questionnaire consists of the following groups of questions: • Motivation: open question about the motivation to take part in the demonstration • Protest mobilization: knowledge about the demonstration, mobilization network • Political activity: Membership in civil society organizations, past protest activity, forms of action • Political attitudes: evaluation of democracy, trust in institutions, self-placement on the political spectrum, party affiliation, voting tendency • Sociodemographic questions: gender, year of birth, education, occupation
Ziel der Studie ist es, Einblicke in die Zusammensetzung und Einstellungen der Teilnehmer*innen der „Fridays for Future“-Demonstrationen für Klimaschutz im November 2019 in Berlin und Bremen zu gewinnen. Der Fokus liegt insbesondere auf soziodemografischen Merkmalen, politischen Einstellungen der bei den Demonstrationen angetroffenen Befragten und auf der Entwicklung der Klimaproteste seit März 2019. Diese Umfrage ist eine Fortsetzung der internationalen Reihe von Protestumfragen zu Klimastreiks/Demonstrationen in 15 Ländern in Europa, Australien, Mexiko und den USA (Wahlström et al. 2019, de Moor et al. 2020). Die Demonstrationen fanden am 29. November in Berlin und Bremen statt. Nach Schätzungen des Forschungsteams nahmen 40.000 Menschen an der Demonstration in Berlin und 6.000 in Bremen teil. Die Organisatoren gaben an, dass 60.000 Menschen in Berlin und 15.000 in Bremen teilgenommen hätten.
