An Account on Alfa Yaaya (NCAC_RDD_TAPE_0014A)

Alfa Yaya

After killing Taibou’s husband, Alfa Yaya married her and settled her in Kardeh. When the white men (the French) came, they met Taibou in Kardeh and conspired with her to poison and kill Alfa Yaya.  While they were discussing plans one of Taibou’s slaves heard it. Following Alfa Yaya’s return from Labe to Kardeh, his wife Taibou made him breakfast with poison and then sent her slave to call him to eat.  The slave told Alfa Yaya about the conspiracy, and he sent his men to kill Taibou by suffocating her to death. When the white men returned they found Alfa Yaya alive, and they asked about Taibou his wife. He told them that she was dead. They invited Alfa Yaya to Conakry to meet an important guest from France, and he agreed.
