Multibeam bathymetry raw data (Kongsberg EM 124 entire dataset) of RV MARIA S. MERIAN during cruise MSM140

Raw multibeam bathymetry data were collected aboard RV MARIA S. Merian during cruise MSN140 using a Kongsberg EM 124 multibeam echosounder. The expedition took place during 2025-09-04 – 2025-10-09 from Reykjavik (Iceland) to Trondheim (Norway) in the North Atlantic. The overall goal of MSM140 was to answer a certain number of questions that are all related to the general feasability of permanently storing large amounts of CO2 in basaltic layers offshore Norway. The drill holes provide insight into the rocks of the Vøring Plateau, but all information is restricted to the direct vicinity of the borehole. Extending the borehole information laterally and determining the spatial variability of thickness, porosity, permeability and electrical conductivity of individual lava flows are the main objectives of cruise MSM140. Reaching these goals requires high- resolution three-dimensional seismic and electromagnetic measurements, whereas hydroacoustic investigations of the seafloor and upper sediments would indicate any past fluid flow out of the seafloor on Vøring Plateau. Data were recorded within the Icelandic EEZ and the Norwegian EEZ. Sound velocity profiles (SVP) were applied on the data for calibration. Please see environmental data and the cruise report for details. The data are unprocessed and can therefore contain incorrect depth measurements (artifacts) if not further processed. Note that refraction errors may occur when no proper SVP is applied. Data acquisition was done by GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, provision of the data is supported by the DAM Project Underway Research Data and published according to the FAIR principles.
