Bei der Untersuchung handelte es sich um ein zweistufiges Forschungsprojekt, in welchem ein repräsentativer Querschnitt von stimm- und wahlberechtigten Personen der Deutschschweiz ein Monat vor und eine Woche nach den Nationalratswahlen 1979 mündlich befragt wurden. In der ersten Erhebung wurden die Personen nach ihren politischen Zielsetzungen, ihrer parteilichen Orientierung, ihrer Zufriedenheit mit dem politischen System befragt. In einer zweiten Befragung – kurz nach den Wahlen – wurden die gleichen Personen gebeten anzugeben, wie sie den Wahlkampf erlebt haben und wie ihre politische Entscheidung ausgefallen ist.

The study was a two-stage research project in which a representative cross-section of voters and electors of German-speaking Switzerland were interviewed face-to-face one month before and one week after the 1979 National Council elections. In the first survey, the persons were asked about their political objectives, their party orientation, and their satisfaction with the political system. In a second survey - shortly after the elections - the same people were asked to state their experience of the election campaign and how their political decision had turned out.
