Total scattering study of the interactions of ammonia borane adsorbed in MCM-41

DOI

We ask for 4 days on NIMROD to study the atomic- and intermediate-range order of ammonia-borane (AB) intercalated into mesoporous MCM-41. Ammonia borane is one of the leading candidates for high wt% hydrogen storage applications and recent studies have shown that the incorporation of AB into nanoscaffolds such as MCM-41 not only lowers the decomposition temperature but also improves kinetics and mitigates against foaming. To understand the interaction between AB and MCM-41, intermediate order information as well as details about the atomic pair distribution function are required. To date, it has not been possible to develop a model of the AB:MCM-41 interaction, but NIMROD provides the unique opprotunity to achieve this by simultaneously providing information about the short-range order of ammonia borane and the interaction of AB with MCM-41. We expect that these results will generate sig
