Temperature measurements from SIMBA-type sea ice mass balance buoy DS2015

DOI

Temperature and heating-induced temperature differences were measured along a chain of thermistors. SIMBA DS2015 is an autonomous instrument that was installed on landfast ice in Prydz Bay, East Antarctica, in May 2015. The buoy was deployed at 68.57°S; 77.93°E, ~1.5 km northwest of Australian Station Davis with initial thicknesses of snow and ice of 0.10 and 0.88 m, respectively, on 26 May 2015. The thermistor chain was 5 m long and included 240 sensors with a regular spacing of 2cm. Because of a sensor failure, only data from the upper 213 sensors is included here. The resulting time series describes the evolution of temperature and temperature differences after two heating cycles of 30 and 120 s as a function of depth and time between 26 May and 8 December 2015 in sample intervals of 2~6 hours for temperature and 24 hours for temperature differences.

The data set has been processed as follows: obvious inconsistencies (missing values) and and unrealistic values have been removed.
