Proton mobility in Solid Super Proton Conductor (H3O)SbTeO6 at controlled humidity level

Super proton conductors are in the focus of interest because of their use in low temperature fuel cells. In this project we try to obtain information on proton mobility, diffusion pathways, and potential barriers in one of the most promising materials, (H3O)SbTeO6, by detailed analysis of data from molecular neutron spectroscopy. Quasielastic spectra will be measured at low temperatures, and between 300 and 500 K at controlled humidity level, which is normal mode of operation of (H3O)SbTeO6 as solid proton conductor. This will complement the information obtained as reference from on air-dry (H3O)SbTeO6 from measurements on OSIRIS, TOSCA and VESUVIO, to investigate proton momentum distribution, other spectroscopic techniques (NMR) as well as theoretical work. The obtained spectral information will be compared with ab intio plain wave DFT calculation using the CASTEP code.
