A study of the induced magnetism in Pd-Ni nanoparticles

DOI

Induced magnetic order in nominally non-magnetic materials due to the effect of proximity to magnetically ordered materials is a subject of great interest. There has been quite a large number of experimental and theoretical works where enhanced paramagnetic materials (materials that are close to Stoner criterion of ferromagnetism) have been shown to acquire sizeable magnetic moment in proximity to ferromagnetic materials. Interesting effects have been observed in continuous film systems and in this experiment we aim to extend these studies to fully characterise a Ni-Pd (shell-core) nanoparticles. Conventional magneometry reveals that the Ni shell does not account for the observed magnetization and therefore PNR is required to analyse the induced moment of the Pd core.
