Magnetic order in Mott insulating kappa-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu[N(CN)2]Cl

DOI

The quasi-two-dimensional molecular series kappa-(BEDT-TTF)2X exemplifies the complex interplay of collective phenomena that occur in correlated electron systems. Many of the properties of these materials have been very successfully studied using muons. A notable gap in the muSR literature is an investigation of antiferromagnetism in Mott insulating kappa-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu[N(CN)2]Cl. This material has previously proven difficult to synthesise reliably owing to the occurrence of several polymorphs. Recent advances in synthesis techniques at Argonne National Laboratory now allow sufficient sample to be made so that the long sought after muSR investigation may now take place. We plan to probe the magnetic order that occurs below TN~25 K along with the critical behaviour close to the transition and the dynamic fluctuations in the paramagnetic insulating phase at higher temperatures.
