Electron Spin Relaxation Measurements of Amorphous PTAA

DOI

The proposed experiment aims to determine the electron spin relaxation rate of the amorphous polymer PTAA as a function of temperature using the HIFI muon spectrometer. For previous measurements on crystalline P3HT the ALC resonance collapses as the temperature is decreased. This collapse is hypothesised to be due to the formation of a band structure within the polymer, and the temperature at which it occurs is related to the degree of crystallinity of the polymer. We wish to test this hypothesise by studying a fully amorphous polymer, which if this is true should show no reduction in the ALC amplitude.
