The chemisorption of hydrogen over a Raney cobalt catalyst: An INS investigation

DOI

Building on a successful programme investigating aspects of iron based Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) catalysts, it is opportune to extend that work to include Co FTS catalysts; the latter finding wide application in modern FTS unit operations. Surprisingly there is a paucity of vibrational studies focusing on hydrogen chemisorption over Co surfaces; a scenario that is frustrating catalyst development strategies for Co based catalysts. A recent MAPS study (RB1820373) revealed complications in activating a Raney Co reference catalyst. Following that study, this proposal seeks to exploit that awareness to use MAPS to obtain the vibrational spectrum of hydrogen over a commercial grade Raney Co catalyst. This will provide fundamental knowledge of considerable impact to sections of the heterogeneous catalysis community.
