Samples from surface microlayer (SML) and undelying water (ULW) were collected in selected stations in the Southern of the North Sea. Samples were stored in cool container (< 10°C via freezer packs) and transported to the lab in the same day. Excitation Emission matrix (EEM) measurements were perfomed with a Perkin Elmer Fluorometer L55.Excitation wavelength was fixed in a spectral range of 200 nm to 400 nm, with steps of 5 nm. EEMs were recorded over a wavelength range of 220 nm to 600 nm, with 5-nm steps.
