Rod-like micelles as CO2 fluid thickeners

DOI

Using LOQ, we have recently shown that self-assembly of fluoro-sulfocuccinate surfactants is indeed a viable approach to promote viscosity enhancement in liquid CO21 (Rod-like micelles thicken CO2 Eastoe et al Langmuir 2009, 25, ASAP 24 Sept 2009). The aim is to extend the suite of surfactants available for stabilizing rod-like micelles in CO2, now using fluorinated analogues of common sodium diethylhexyl phosphate (DEHP). The new ISIS Thar high-pressure cell will be used, and the project has received Next Generation Facility User funding (EP/F020686). High pressure viscosities will be studied through our US-DOE-funded collaboration with Bob Enick and Eric Beckman (University of Pittsburgh).
