Constructing analogues of Gemini and oligomeric surfactants using polyamines

DOI

Gemini or oligomeric surfactants, where two or more alkyl chains and headgroups are connected via spacer groups, have interesting and potentially important properties which make them attractive for many applications. Difficulties in synthesis and purification have hampered their applications. This proposal is about emulating their properties through the formation of Gemini or oligomeric type surfactants by the interaction of a single alkyl chain surfactant with bola type connecting molecules, diamines or polyamines. We request here further SANS beam time to obtain the essential structural characterisation of such mixtures, to investigate the role of polyamine structure and MW on the self-assembly.
