Correlation between Internal Dynamics and Microstructure in Ionic Micelles

DOI

Despite the extensive characterization of the structure and macroscopic behavior of micelles, the fast local dynamics of surfactants in micelles and their correlation with microstructure is not very well understood. Local dynamics in these types of assemblies could play an important role in the release of solubilized drugs, micellar breaking time, etc. Addition of an electrolyte affects the interaction between the amphiphiles, which results in changes in the size/shape, and the dynamics of the micelles. However, this found to affect the dynamics differently in cationic and anionic micelles. We thus propose to study this effect in detail in an anionic, SDS, as well as in a cationic, CTAB micellar solution, using QENS. This would provide a direct correlation between shape, interaction and local dynamics in these micellar systems. This is in continuation with our earlier proposal (RB910248)
