Spin excitations in La2CoO4

We will use MAPS to measure the complete spin excitation spectrum of the quasi-two-dimensional S=3/2 antiferromagnet La2CoO4. The measurement is motivated by recent observations that hole-doped La2CoO4 develops spin and charge stripe superstructures at hole concentrations between ~0.4 and 0.7. We will use the data to determine the fundamental magnetic interactions of the parent antiferromagnet, which are needed for an understanding of the stability of the stripe order.
