20th-century art music in Barcelona (Spain): concerts and record-listening sessions in small venues (1948-1960)

DOI

The dataset gathers information of concerts and record-listening sessions of 20th-century art music in Barcelona (Spain) between 1948 and 1960. The research was focused on the music programmed by several small venues and select circles of Barcelona during Franco’s regime: Bartomeu House, Club 49, Institut français de Barcelone and Joventuts Musicals de Barcelona. As a selection criterion, all pieces written from 1900 onwards have been included. The first file contains 940 references of musical pieces played in live concerts and the second file contains 386 references of musical pieces included in record-listening sessions.

As described above, two ways were used to find the data. Firstly, systematic research was done to search for concert programmes in the main archives of Barcelona, and secondly, the most influential newspapers were revised in paper (La Vanguardia Española, El Noticiero Universal, Destino, Revista...).
