The crystal structure of a Co(II) cubane single-molecule magnet

DOI

Single molecule magnetism is a low temperature phenomenon. Even though there have been thousands of papers published in the area, there are no structural data at all for any system in the region where SMM behaviour is observed. Co4-cit is a single molecule magnet which shows a slowing of magnetic relaxation below 7 K. Our aim in this study is to determine the structure on Co4-cit above and below the on-set temperature of slow relaxation behaviour. The crystal structure takes the form of a 3-dimensional H-bonded network, and location of hydrogen atoms will be particularly important as this will reveal the possible influence of intermolecular effects.
