Copy of: Magnetic excitations in the one dimensional (1D) spin-chain systems: Ca3TMnO6 (T=Ni and Zn)

The spin-chain systems with general formula A¿3ABO6, crystallizing in the K4CdCl6 type structure has attracted a lot attention in recent years due to geometrical frustration that arises from the triangular arrangement of antiferromagnetically coupled ferromagnetic chains. Recently we are investigating the low and high energies magnetic excitations in R3CoTO6 (R=Ca and Sr, T=Co, Ir and Rh Mn) using HET and IRIS. Our high energy response on HET reveals very interesting excitations below 35 meV in both the Ca and Sr systems, but no clear sign of strong magnetic scattering at low energy on IRIS. We have carried out a test measurements on Ca3ZnMnO6 (Mn4+ S=3/2, Zn non magnetic)on IRIS and MARI, which reveals interesting excitations with a spin gap. Here we propose to investigate in detail the lower energy excitations on IRIS and high energy excitations on MERLIN/MARI on Ca3NiMnO6 (Ni2+ S=1).
