Dynamical Characterisation Of Conjugated Polymer Nanocomposites Used for Plastic Solar Cells

Research on organic photo-voltaics (PVs) has increased dramatically in the last few years, owing to the promise of low manufacturing costs, high production throughput and large area applications. However, efficiencies are still rather limited to up to around 6%. In trying to achieve higher efficiencies, understanding the structure and dynamics at the nanoscale and what the controlling parameters are, is of great importance. There are increasing number of studies on the morphology of P3HT/PCBM blends, but little work on the dynamics of P3HT chains and PCBM. The IRIS spectrometer allows us to characterise dynamics in the P3HT amorphous phase (co-existing with crystalline phase and PCBM) and will give us some insight into the enviroment of the chains and how morphology evolves upon varying solvent and thermal annealing.
