Determining the magnetic moments of Co and Mn ions in the Ca3CoMnO6 unique multiferroic

DOI

Ca3Co1.05Mn0.95O6 is a rather unique multiferroic being the only known system with displaying collinear magnetic order that breaks inversion symmetry. To date it was not possible to determine a reliable value for the Co magnetic moment using powder neutron diffraction and this information is crucial to decide whether Co is in the high or low spin state. We have done magnetisation in record fields up to 100T and support from theoreticians on this problem.
