POLYMORPHISM IN PLATINUM(II) COMPLEXES PROBED BY SIMULTANEOUS INS AND RAMAN SCATTERING

The present study aims to probe polymorphic transitions in Pt(II)-amine complexes, aiming at identifying the INS and Raman spectral signature of each species as well as their relative thermal stability ranges. This will yield a spectroscopic picture of the polymorphic equilibrium, and will hopefully establish an easily accessible and accurate method (Raman), not presently available, for determining unequivocally the polymorphic state of a particular drug sample, whenever needed (e.g. prior to solubilisation and administration). Two complexes will be investigated: (i) Cisplatin (Pt(NH3)2Cl2), collecting the experimental Raman and INS spectra for each known polymorphic form (alpha and beta). (ii) Tetraammineplatinum(II) dichloride ([Pt(NH3)4]Cl2), as a model for Pt(II)-amine anticancer agents.
