Muon spin rotation study on Pr2T3Ge5 (T = Rh and Pd)

Recently we have investigated Pr2Pd3Ge5 and Pr2Rh3Ge5 compounds which form in the orthorhombic structure. Pr2Pd3Ge5 exhibits two magnetic transitions at TN1 = 7.5 K and TN2 = 8.3 K, while Pr2Rh3Ge5 does not show any phase transition down to 0.5 K. Further, in Pr2Pd3Ge5 the specific heat and electrical resistivity both reveal gapped magnon with an energy gap of ~ 3 K, suggesting an Ising type AFM. On the other hand the specific heat data suggest that Pr2Rh3Ge5 has a crystal field (CEF) singlet ground state, separated from the first excited state by about 10 K. The low lying CFF excitation between the ground state and first excited state leads to exciton mediated electronic mass enhancement in Pr2Rh3Ge5 as evidenced by large Sommerfeld coefficient ~ 81 mJ/mole K2. We propose here to carry out a µSR study on Pr2Pd3Ge5 and Pr2Rh3Ge5 to investigate the magnetic properties of these compounds.
