Understanding the relationship between glass composition and rare earth environment in Nd doped chalcogenide glasses.

DOI

We wish to investigate the effect of glass composition on the environment of rare earth ions doped into chalcogenide glasses. To achieve this the series of glasses, yNd2S3 ¿ (1-y)[xGa2S3 (1-x)GeS2], will be studied using two tie lines in this ternary system, yNd2S3 (1-y)[0.3Ga2S3 0.7GeS2] where y = 0, 0.03, 0.06 and 0.09, and 0.06Nd2S3 0.94[xGa2S3 (1-x)GeS2] where x=0.2, 0.25, 0.35 and 0.4. The results, used in conjunction with Raman, X-ray diffraction data (ISIS Ag-tube diffractometer), and a future magnetic difference neutron diffraction study, will be used to gain an insight into the relationship between the Nd environment and composition.
