Single chain particles are resulted from the collapse of polymer chain in dilute solution. Their chemistry and morphology can be well controlled, thus serving as ideal model systems for applications like the directional assemble of colloidal particles into structures with lower symmetry. Esecially interesting is that when di-block copolymer is used, if only one block is collapsed, the the colloidal particle will have a dense head and a single tail. However, the production of such single chain particle is often at very low efficiency as the concentration of block copolymer has to be kept low to avoid inter-chain association. This study is to explore the relationship between comformation and single chain particle formation, thus to guide further effort in improving the production of single chain particles. With the ability to contrast match, SANS is ideal to achieve this goal.
