Udhruh Oral History Project Interview 9

Interview with ‘Ataallah. He lived in Udhruh for 70 years. Their lifestyle changed over time, they used to have sheep but now most people work for the government. Tribe culture is more important to him than the material culture. They settled down in this area because of the water, but it is now gone. He mentions the Ottoman war to defend Udhruh and the water, many Bedouin families joined. In the past they used the castle for storage, but now it is not in use anymore. They want to keep the castle so they can get benefit from tourism. He says Udhruh is not the real name, Fawd al-Rwhe is the name, which refers to the water in the area. The name was changed after the Ottomans left. He wonders how people could move the very big stones of the castle.
