Factors influencing Resilience of Farmers to Natural Hazards in Irrigated Rice Fields in West Java

This research investigated factors influencing the resilience of farmers to natural hazards in disaster-prone irrigated rice fields in the Subang district, West Java. This study focuses on the recovery property of resilience and defines resilience as the ability of farmers to recover from the recurrent impacts of natural hazard occurrences. Firstly, this study provides an overview of the condition of rice fields using the Vegetation Condition Index (VCI) derived from time-series 8-day 500-m MODIS imageries during the periods of dry planting season 2015 and wet planting season 2016. Secondly, the study explores the factors that influence the resilience using the structured questionnaire. Finally, this study investigates characteristics that distinguish between the potential and actual resilience.
