Community-based monitoring pilot project to monitor health of the marine ecosystem, Pond Inlet, Nunavut

Hunters from Pond Inlet were employed to collect observations on marine wildlife sited or harvested between April 2017 and March 2018. Whenever participants harvested an animal or encountered marine mammals, they took a GPS reading and completed a survey form.

These forms were passed to the Community Liasion Officer in Pond Inlet where they were in turn passed to QIA head office in Iqaluit. Survey data was subsequently logged by QIA staff in an Excel database. ArcGIS was used to create spatial data based off the locatity information provided by the community participants.
