Soil Temperature and Relative Humidity at the Yungay Hiperarid site, Atacama Desert, Chile 2015-2017

DOI

In August of 2015, soil relative humidity (RH) and temperature sensors were installed in a depth profile at the Yungay soil, a well known location in the hyperarid core of the Atacama Desert, previously examined in numerous publications (e.g. Ewing et al., 2006, 2008; Jungers et al., 2014). Ten HOBO Prov2 (U23-002) relative humidity (RH) and temperature sensors were placed in the soil at Yungay in August 2015. A 80 cm trench was dug, and a drill was used to emplace sensors at depths of 1, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80 cm in the trench wall. Sensors where placed 15 cm from the trench wall and backfilled with soil to isolate from the trench microclimate. Upon refilling, soil RH and temperature values were obtained at 30 minutes intervals. The data records from August-22-2015 to November-11-2016 and from between June-26-2017 to October-15-2017.
